Outside for A Better Inside seeks to enhance the elementary school curriculum by directly engaging children in nature. Second grade teachers accomplish this by teaching the children about butterflies, their habitat and their life cycle. We are engaging the children in all elementary schools by building butterfly gardens. The gardens give children the opportunity to take their classroom outdoors. It is here they build the garden, plant the plants, record the plants, mark the growth of the plants, water, weed and maintain the garden and observe the life cycle of many butterfly species. Approximately 80 children work together to build the garden at their school. Each garden costs $500. We are encouraging individuals to support our program and sponsor a garden at one of our elementary schools.
